| Bio: | I am a Fool who walks many paths. I've been paid to work as a concert security guard, a strip club bouncer, a library technician, a special education instructional aide, a respite worker, a web designer, and an administrative assistant. I've volunteered as a queer rights and education activist, a registration manager for a science-fiction convention, and a first aid technician for rock concerts. There's a few more I could mention, but then things get boring... I received my BA in Anthropology at UC Santa Cruz, with an emphasis on medical and forensic studies. Currently, I'm in my third year of a graduate studies at Samuel Merritt College where I am learning to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. In the meantime, I'm employed at the local county hospital as an orthopaedic trauma nurse. This journal has become an interesting object in my life. Sometimes it exists merely as an efficient means to say, "Yo, Hey!" to a bunch of folks, without having to remember email addresses. On the other hand, it is a nice place to record and share memories. Currently, I'm writing a lot about dealing with my diagnosis of and treatment for testicular cancer. I discovered it early because I am a nurse, and knew what to look for. I thank God for this, because had I not known to act quickly, I would have sat upon it and prayed it would go away. My cancer ended up metastasizing to other parts of my body, and I am currently undergoing chemotherpy to treat it. Cancer sucks. I have cancer, but it doesn't have me. I strongly encourage everyone to take an active role in personal health monitoring. What you discover early on may truly make a life-or-death difference. I tend to only "friend" people I have known in real life. This doesn't mean I won't spend some time reading your journal if we've never met, I just like the physical world to remain a part of my established relationships. I wear my sobriety with pride. | |
